Considered one of the ten most architecturally distinguished buildings of 18th century America, Touro is the oldest synagogue in the United States, a National Historic Site and an international symbol of religious freedom.
Begin your visit at the Loeb Visitors Center at 52 Spring St. and explore interactive, multi-media exhibits that examine over 250 years of Touro Synagogue history, Newport's colonial Jewish community and the origins of religious freedom and the separation of church and state. Discover how Newport's colonial community laid the groundwork for our First Amendment rights.
